Thanks to the Neighborhood Farm Initiative and all of the volunteers who turned out to make the first Slow Food DC Dig In event a success! Volunteers included Slow Food members and some new faces all interested in urban agriculture and giving back to the community. The Neighborhood Farm Initiative provides hands-on training in organic vegetable gardening to both volunteers and students. They also run a Teen Green Summer Youth program, to educate teens in green job skills in urban agriculture and culinary professions. We are very excited to support these efforts. Plus, we shared a lovely potluck picnic at the end of our gardening; the whole day was a great opportunity to get to know Slow Foodies.
