Event Recap: Cheese and Beer Tasting with Paste & Rind
In August 2026, Slow Food DC was thrilled to partner with Kara McGrath, owner of Snail of Approval-winner Paste & Rind, for a thoughtfully curated cheese and beer pairing event. The tasting featured four special cheeses from Virginia-based Georges Mill Farm and beers produced by DC-based Henceforth.
Kara shared her expertise and enthusiasm throughout the event as she guided us through the pairings and provided information about the production process for each type of cheese. We loved learning about the seasonality of goat cheeses, the history behind Georges Mill Farm, (founded more than 250 years ago!), the farm’s innovative practices to support food system resilience and top-quality products (like rotational grazing and GPS collars), among other topics. This was a perfect way to celebrate National Goat Cheese Month, which falls at the time of year when goat cheese is at its tastiest following a full summer of goats eating fresh forage.
Attendees enjoyed the beautiful space and gracious hospitality in Henceforth, a community-focused brewery, wine bar, and gathering space on H St. NE.
A portion of proceeds were used to support continued advancement Slow Food DC's mission of good, clean, fair food. Thank you to Paste & Rind, Henceforth, Georges Mill Farm, and all of the enthusiastic attendees! We encourage you to read more about upcoming events with Paste & Rind at Henceforth on their website linked above and where to find George’s Mill cheeses on their website. Consider paying the farm a visit to see baby goats in the spring or visit their farm store, too.
